Invisalign Care

  • Wear aligners all day, all night for 7-10 days.
  • Take them out only for brushing, eating or drinking.
  • Taking aligners in and out of mouth can be tricky. When taking out, be sure to start in the back.  With your fingernail, grab the edge of the aligners and wiggle up and down.
  • Be sure to rinse your Invisalign aligner each time you take it in and out, and to brush them at least once a day. This will help keep plaque deposits from building up in your Invisalign aligners.
  • Keep your aligners in retainer cases as they can get lost or broken. You will be provided with two cases. One case should be designated for the aligners that you are currently wearing. The other case should store your previously worn aligners for back-up.
  • If an aligner becomes lost or damaged, contact our office promptly to re-order the aligner(s), however, this is not an emergency. Because it can take up to 7-10 days for Invisalign to send us the replacement aligners, we ask that you wear your previously worn aligners(s) to prevent any undesirable tooth movement.
  • Attachments tend to break off easily due to the numerous times your aligners may come in and out of the mouth.  If an attachment should come off, please contact our office to add extra time to your next scheduled appointment; this is not an emergency.  Continue wearing the aligners that you are currently in and do not switch aligners until the lost attachment is replaced.
  • Never move forward with your aligners sooner than 7-10 days! It is always better to wear them a little longer than two weeks if needed.
  • When 7-10 days is up and you are ready to change aligners, it is best to do so in the evening so you can sleep through any minor aches or pains.
  • Take Tylenol or other pain medication every 4-6 hours as needed.
