New Braces

It is normal to take a few days for you to adjust to wearing new braces or an appliance. After a short period of time, your cheeks and lips will adapt and the soreness will subside. Don’t get discouraged!

Discomfort is normal during the first several days. We recommend using orthodontic wax for any sore areas, and taking over the counter pain medication for discomfort when needed.

The cement used to place brackets and appliances becomes solidified at your bonding appointment. However, it doesn’t become completely hardened for about 24 hours. Please use extra caution anytime something new is bonded for 24 hours afterwards.

It is especially important to be sure to keep our teeth and new braces or appliance clean throughout treatment. Thorough, gentle brushing should be done after every meal and flossing at least once a day.
